When abstract art has broad repercussions …

The Comenius School in Wiesbaden – this year part of the Abstraction in a Square project – has also made abstract art the theme of its annual in-school painting competition. It kindly invited the Reinhard & Sonja Ernst Foundation to be part of the competition jury.

A total of 156 artworks were submitted. There were various requirements for the competition. The image content had to be abstract and the paint had to fill the entire image. In addition, the school students were asked to use four different materials, two of which should be derived from nature and to give their work of art a title.

The winning works came from students of all ages, from year four to year 10 almost every age group was represented. On 30 October, the works of five artists were awarded:
