The museum’s architecture holds numerous visual surprises for its future visitors. A truly remarkable highlight are the abstract works by five artists, which were exclusively commissioned for the museum. An inherent part of the building, the works are located in areas which are free to access by anyone entering the museum. Among them is the series of five works on glass by the renowned street artist MadC, which have been recently installed.
Mesmerizing Compositions
Brilliant colour combinations, a play with transparent layers, and spontaneous calligraphic elements are the recurring features of the series titled Wandering Thoughts. MadC, alias Claudia Walde, typically creates large-scale paintings with acrylic and spray paint on canvas or building façades. For the Reinhard Ernst Museum, the artist is now entering new artistic territory. Expertly assisted by Derix Glass Studios, MadC translates her dynamic visions of form and colour into translucent, brightly dyed glass.
Work in Progress
Before the panels made of mouth-blown antique glass safely reach their final destination, they had to be transported from the museum’s delivery area to the ground floor through an assembly robot and rolling racks. With great care, the individual parts were installed without damage.
The picture above shows one of Derix’s professionals thoroughly cleaning the glass panels prior to them being placed into the allocated recesses. The construction lights needed for the installation already gave us a flavour of the intensely coloured light that will emanate from the panels once lit.
The project is nearing its completion. If you would like to stay updated on the progress of the installation, please check regularly our blog.
