A lot has happened again since our last construction status report on our website. The interior work has been going on for several weeks now, and the installation of the screed is an important stage in this. First of all, a prescribed time limit is imposed; secondly, important tradesmen in services such as heating, electrical and plumbing have to work closely together. With Damian Werner from Fulda, we chose a composition floor layer whose flexibility means he can work on different floors at the same time.<\/p>\n

For this purpose, they are currently bringing in screed into the building by the ton. Which means they aim to meet three essential requirements: insulation, heating and height adjustment.<\/p>\n

First, before the actual screed is installed, the floor is insulated to eliminate any unevenness in the unfinished floor. The insulation thickness is based on the specified guidelines for thermal insulation. Once the required lines have been laid, the insulation is followed by the light screed, which is saturated with a large number of Styrofoam beads. A bead solution has already been used for the ceilings (see our construction status report from 30 September 2020<\/span><\/a>), and in this case the weight-saving principle also applies. Then, mats are placed to accommodate underfloor heating wherever heating is required. The cement screed is then added, which is also often referred to as heating screed.<\/p>\n

According to the construction manager Jasmin Veigel, the floor structure in our museum will be around 32 centimetres high \u2013 not counting the finished floor. The upper screed layer has to be especially even \u2013 and at different heights because the floor covering varies depending on the space and area. Natural stone, parquet, carpet, linoleum and terrazzo are laid at the Reinhard Ernst Museum<\/span>, which is why different screed heights are mandatory. The composition floor layer will therefore deal with a real challenge. You can walk on the cement floor after three to five days.<\/p>\n
