At the southeast\u00a0corner of the museum building, there are already several wall elements in place\u00a0on the top floor.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Quite a lot has\u00a0happened on the Wilhelmstrasse 1 site since the last building status report.\u00a0The first floor was completed at the end of 2020 in terms of its\u00a0ceilings and\u00a0walls. The shell is currently growing with the second (and therefore final) level.\u00a0The view of the northeast side shows that there are already several\u00a0walls on\u00a0this level and the first roof was also concreted this week.<\/p>\n

The large inner\u00a0courtyard \u2013 a bright place of inspiration later on \u2013 currently serves as a\u00a0storage area for scaffolding components, formwork elements and\u00a0rubbish\u00a0containers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Daily accommodation facilities right next to the shell have also grown in height; a third container level now ensures (due to the pandemic) that the construction workers can stay there in smaller groups. Strict attention is paid to coronavirus-appropriate compliance with team numbers and quarantine requirements. On this occasion, any observer of the museum project should once again realise that the construction workers do their jobs in even the most inclement weather. In recent days, it has bucketed down with rain. The international team on the construction site continues to work without any fuss at all. Hats off to them for that \u2026<\/p>\n

Temporary protective\u00a0devices have been built using square timbers and roofing felt so that no\u00a0significant amounts of water will spill into larger openings in the\u00a0building\u00a0during heavy rain.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Due to the complex structural calculations\u00a0involved with numerous self-supporting ceilings, the concrete is given a lot of\u00a0time to harden. This has\u00a0meant some dates have been postponed somewhat. The\u00a0effects of the pandemic are also noticeable for the first time \u2013 the numbers of\u00a0workers in the\u00a0gangs has been lower since the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n

Using defined fixed points, regular checks\u00a0are conducted on whether and how the heavy construction made of concrete and\u00a0steel is sinking into the\u00a0ground. Up to 3.5 centimetres would be within the\u00a0tolerance range. However, the last measurement this week showed only a minimal\u00a0lowering of 0\u00a0to 1 millimetre; this means the building is standing straight and\u00a0any subsidence occurs evenly.<\/p>\n

What happens next? For the large goods\u00a0lift, a heavy hydraulic prop will be lifted into the lift shaft on 13 February.\u00a0In what will later be connecting\u00a0rooms, steel frames have already been placed\u00a0and the floor screed poured. At the end of the month, the pipes for district\u00a0heating, drinking water and\u00a0telecommunications will be laid in the building. The\u00a0roofing work begins in March.<\/p>\n

A third person has joined the construction\u00a0management team alongside Jasmin Veigel und Marcel Huendgen \u2013 Paula Klemp was\u00a0involved in the\u00a0planning of the interior work and is now part of the team that\u00a0monitors the orderly progress of the work on site.<\/p>\n
